Building Strong Girls

As women in Gamma Phi Beta, Building Strong Girls is both our philanthropic mission and a passion of each of ours; we partner with Girls on the Run to bring this philanthropy and passion to life. Girls On the Run is an international non-profit empowerment organization for young girls. Through these meaningful programs, girls learn confidence, character, competence, and care for others at an early age, as well as make important connections with coaches who serve as life long role models. As Gamma Phi Betas, we support and engage with Girls On the Run often. We provide financial support for the organization through various fundraising events such as our annual Moonball tournament, Valentines Day Carnation Sales, and homemade bake sales in our Ville house. We also engage with the girls involved with the organization by attending their culminating race, sending them encouraging messages, and supporting the girls unconditionally so they all realize their limitless potential. We all believe our efforts to build strong girls is crucial to their development and will support them in accomplishing all they seek to in their futures, and we are thankful for the opportunity to spread this important message.

about Girls on the Run:

HuskyTHON

This year Gamma Phi Beta participated in the annual dance marathon at UConn called HuskyTHON. All year long our teams fundraised for Connecticut Children's in Hartford, CT and Gamma Phi Beta raised over $30,000 collectively in 2021!

On March 20th-21st, our sisters gathered in support outside on the Student Union Lawn for 18 hours over those two days. HuskyTHON may have looked different in 2021 than it did in years past, but it did not stop our chapter from reaching their fundraising goals or dancing their hearts out for a cause they care so much about. As a team Gamma Phi came together to brighten the lives of children and families in our community and we could not be more proud of our sisters for fighting and dancing to end childhood illness. With that said, her is a message from our HuskyTHON 2022 Dance Representatives for Gamma Phi:

“I wanted to be apart of HuskyTHON from the very beginning. I know it has created such a positive and inspiring environment knowing that we are helping the kids and families everyday. It just shows how much the UConn community cares about organizations like this and I am so fortunate to be apart of it! As one of the Dance Representatives this year for Gamma Phi, Mary Kate and I want to do everything we can to increase awareness about HuskyTHON and get everyone excited for night of:)”
